Living room field note
How to choose wall art above a sofa.
Start with the sofa, not the empty wall. The artwork should connect visually to the furniture below it, which usually means filling 60-75% of the sofa width and hanging the lowest edge 6-10 inches above the back.

Measure your sofa width.
Move the slider to the full outside width of your sofa. The recommendation includes the complete artwork arrangement and any gaps between pieces.
A pair of 18 x 24 prints or a coordinated trio will feel balanced.
One print, a pair, or a trio?
One large print
Best when the sofa and room already have several visual elements. A single 24 x 36 vertical print works over a loveseat or compact sofa, while a wide wall may need a larger framed footprint.
A balanced pair
Two prints create calm symmetry. Keep 2-4 inches between frames and include that gap when calculating the total width.
A coordinated trio
Three pieces give a long sofa more rhythm. Use consistent frame sizes and 2-3 inch gaps so the group reads as one arrangement.
Placement
Hang it 6-10 inches above the sofa.
A large empty gap makes the art feel disconnected from the furniture. Start with 8 inches between the sofa back and the bottom frame edge, then adjust slightly for tall cushions or a low ceiling.
For a room without furniture directly below the art, aim for the center of the arrangement to sit roughly 57-60 inches from the floor.

Calm structure for a living room.
Minimalist abstracts and coordinated neutral sets carry enough visual weight for a sofa wall without fighting the rest of the room.
